    Hi and welcome to CF!

The received wisdom is that no cert is a 'magic bullet' that will get you a job. They may, or may not, help depending on whether the recruiter has heard of the cert in question!

Much better is to have a portfolio of your work to show people.

But the job market *is* tough at the moment....

    Hello and Welcome to Certforums

As hbroomhall said, no cert is a guarantee, Keep looking for a job while updating your portfolio with new techniques and work.

Have you thought about offering your services out for free in your spare time? Some companies may need a website but not be able to pay full whack for a web designer. You get to gain experience and portfolio stuff, they get a website. Its win-win

    Just a suggestion....

    Hi and welcome.
I would agree, a strong portfolio is often worth more than a cert.
In my experience no-one have ever asked me if I am qualified web designer/developer before giving me a freelance project.

The usual question is "give us a portfolio"

    Hi Angela, and welcome!

Do you have any web design experience or skills beyond the ACITP certification? And what skills are you listing besides the cert?

If you have applied for that many jobs, then you should have a good idea of what skills are in demand, and therefore what you need to be learning in order to make yourself more employable. Going on another course is not really needed; what would probably benefit you more is getting some books and developing a portfolio, and once you are comfortable with what you have learned, to start reapplying for entry-level jobs.

Certification isn't the way into web design, unfortunately - skills and experience are, and this is what employers will be looking for.

Edit: like rota, whether at work or with clients, I have never been asked if I am certified; what matters is if I have the skills and ability to create the website which an employer or client wants.
