Hi, my names Alex, im 16 from Edinburgh, Scotland. Im leaving school this year and im going on to study a HNC in computing. THEN afterwards I was looking into the possibility of studying for a MCSA (then MCSE) with NITLC. I was forwarded to this forum by a student at NITLC and I thought I would sign up and try and get peoples opinions on what would be the best for me.

Im very interested in computers and I wanted to study for the MCSA this year but the cost (£3750) was quite steep for me at the moment. So I have decided to study a HNC and build up some money then go on to study for a MCSA, does that seem like a good plan? Looking forward to meeting and hearing from people on the forum

    Thanks for feedback.
    Alex

Welcome to CF! Good choice with the HNC... Infact look at HND and even higher.. I near went to Paisley to do Computer Networks and they have CISCO and Microsoft Certs in their degree program so once you finished considered them as i heard alot of people say good things about their degree...

I think doing a degree would be good cause you will get a work placement year and that will be priceless in the future.. Oh and if you dont like the idea then you CAN study MCSA and MCSE self-study wise.. you buy the books and setup a few PC's at home to practice on it will save you thousands and you will do more hands on!

Good luck and shout for help if you need!

    Hi,

My names Ben Wood, I'm 25 years old from Greater London.

For the past 3 years i have been working in sales and now I find it seriously boring. When i was 17 I worled for a Networking Company called Atomwide UK based in Orpington in Kent and it was the best and most envolved job i ever had so now i am just trying to get back into Network Engineering.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Ben :-)

Agreed. You have youth on your side Alex. Having this kind of direction and focus at your age will put you in great stead for the future. Do your stuff at college and get a Job in IT to fund your future certification endevours. And i agree witht he comment about self study. Get a few old machines and just play with them in your own time. Its a great way to learn and the troubleshooting skills (and finding solutions) you pick up will be invaluable.

Good luck and all the best
