:D After 10 months in an uninspiring work environment, a few spouts of failing forward, and much metaphorical scratching and clawing, I have (in my eyes at least) managed to force my way up a level on the career ladder.

Rather than solely being desktop support, I have managed to land a job as the sole Systems Administrator at a company around the corner from me, and have been informed that I "will be IT" for the company.

So just in time for christmas I've bagged a job that's 1.5 miles (as opposed to 16 miles) from home, a more flexible company, a 20% payrise, a heck load more responsibility but 1000% more access and technical exposure. That ol' "6 months free Pluralsight subscription" is about to come in very handy.

    Excellent news. Congratulations Pal.
Passed my 3 months probation earlier this month.

I was going from Debden to Camden every day (About 1hr 45 Mins each way excluding the drive from Waltham Abbey to Debden). Current job is Waltham Cross to Liverpool St (30 Mins on the train and a 10 Minutes drive). It makes such a difference doesn't it.

    I miss 10 minute commutes :(

I currently commute for between 3 - 4 hours a day at the moment, prior to moving to this office I was going on the train for between 5 - 6 hours a day, now I drive it instead.

    Congrats!

SimonD, I feel your pain. It's 2 hours each way for me. Would be overjoyed with a 10 minute commute!

It was better when it was by train as I could sleep / watch tv/movies etc but in the car it's pretty much podcasts/radio these days.
