Has anyone seen the new CompTIA site? If not, then you might have missed the new Strata Fundamental exams. These appear to be really entry level, pre-A+ exams. In addition, they are not certifications, according to the info on the site.

I wonder if they're trying to muscle in on any of the other, ECDL-type, courses/exams already out there...

To my knowledge, there is nothing that is similar to STRATA. ECDL is a user certification. STRATA is a lower technical certification that sits below A+. Check out the attached marketing document.

I think it's more like what CCENT is to CCNA. It's sort of a pre cursor to the A+ but I don't think it's as basic as the A+

    Certifications: A+, N+, MCDST, Security+, 70-270
    WIP: 70-620 or 70-680?

It's exactly that. It's a natural stepping stone to A+.
