You are having difficulty pinging a remote workstation from a PC running Linux. As you do not know the remote PC's IP Address you are trying to Ping via its Hostname, however DNS is not configured on the network.

Where would you look to start fixing the problem?

    A) HOSTS

    B) staticdns

    C) resolv

    D) passwd

    Good Luck! :biggrin

Probably [HIDE]A. HOSTS, but that only works if the remote host's IP had been manually entered in my /etc/hosts file[/HIDE] I'm surprised you didn't put "dig" as one of the options since it is a Linux/UNIX based address resolution tool.

[hide]i would say A but since that is too obvious and we are talking about linux, i will go for C.[/hide]

Well done to those who said A) HOSTS.

This is of course where you would look to troubleshoot DNS issues regardless of platform.
