short thrift for now.. am otherwise engaged...

a concentrator is a hub... look at webopedia.com for a better explanation

For the 486 the flippant answer is who cares, its obsolete.. the answer would be a video card on a VESA Local bus slot...

google VESA Local Bus for more info...

    hope that helps

What course are you doing? Concentrators seem an odd subject to cover on the A+.
Fairly good description at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concentrator
And as for the best performing video card for a 40486? Surely thats going to be dictated by the types of bus supported by the motherboard that the CPU is sat on?

AFAIK no '486 box had an AGP, which would otherwise be the best answer. I'm not sure that any had PCI - but it was too long ago to remember! MCA was specific to PS/2 machines and the odd Apricot, and is dead. So EISA might be the answer. However, A+ doesn't nowadays bother with such antiques much - so I suspect you have some rather old questions!
I'd suggest that 1) the concentrator is a red herring, and 2) possibly one of b or c is the correct answer. Again - I think this is an old question now.

Are you a Computeach student by any chance??
I seem to remember the exact same questions you refer too from the A+ mock exams.

Computeach take their mock exam questions from Transcender's.
This is copy write material,so you could land the certforums in trouble by posting the exact question on these boards.
