I ran across a little note-taking app called Tomboy by accident today. It's in Debian, and I would imagine Ubuntu too, and installed by default in Lenny, but I had never seen it before.

I've seen a few little tools for taking notes but nothing this flexible or handy. Here's the feature page from the Gnome project.

    http://www.gnome.org/projects/tomboy/features.html

To set it up simply right-click the top or bottom panel on the Gnome desktop and choose "Add to Panel". Then scroll down and highlight Tomboy. Click the "Add" button at the bottom of the "Add to Panel" window and you're done. A couple of windows will pop up to get you started and show you how to use it.

If you're running Etch simply "apt-get install tomboy" to install it and all its dependencies, then just follow the instructions above to configure it.
