I'm thinking about buying a NAS, and was looking at a budget of £150.

My criteria, is that it needs to be fairly compact and have at least 500GB of storage with Power Down function (so its not costing me loads to run). So far, I have seen the following:

    Freecom Network Drive Pro 500GB

Buffalo LinkStation Live 500GB MultiMedia NAS

QNap seem to have a good reputation, but I'm reluctant to pay that sort of money for home use.

Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.

I've used an Iomega one in the past but the connection to it (web interface) was quirky and unreliable. I'd stay away from them.

Personally, I'd go for the Buffalo linkstation live as it looks sturdy and they're good products in general.

Just ordered the Freecom, in the end it had good reviews, but more importantly it looks pretty!
