I've just taken 70-290 today (I passed). I was a little apprehensive about the new-style simulation format, but overall I was pleasantly suprised.

    A couple of observations:
    • I found the simulation questions relatively easy compared to other questions.
    • Out of 44 questions, roughly five were simulations
    • You can get partial marks.
    • You can achieve the end result in a number of different ways, so you don't have to learn the MS way click-for-click - thank god!
    • The interface is slightly buggy (certain forms/displays don't update when you would expect them to).
    • You can review the simulation questions and it remembers what you've already done (It would be very annoying if it reset each time).
    • Some questions were a little open-ended, not ambigous as such, but there was occasions when I didn't know whether to complete/change related things (e.g define default gateway and subnet mask when asked to set the IP address).
Overall, the simulations make the exams (slightly) easier for anyone with real practical experience.

    Hi,
    thanks for the details,
    I passed my 70-290 today with 887,
    4 questions were simulations,
The first simulation did'ent load correctly (had active X errors)
so had to get the supervisor in to sort it out!
The Sims were VERY realistic, exactly as you would carry out a task in the field, which is good as that is what I am doing already but watch out all TK, etc users!
I even got frisked as I left the exam room!
    <sorry, had a few 'lemonades' to celerbrate!>

Passed 70-291 today (887). Felt like there were a lot more simulations than 70-290, about 10 out of 43 questions.

I found this exam much harder than 70-290, primarily because the questions were a lot more complicated and time consuming. In fact I finished with only about 15 minutes to spare!

Again, I would say that the simulation questions are generally easier than the multiple-choice ones.

Also, to anyone holding back and waiting for some preparation tools for the simulations, don't bother, if you've used the real product than that's the best preparation you can have.
