so your stuck on doing someone on your computer, you have windows installed, but no internet...

what would your first port of call be?

edit: i say this because someone at work is stuck on something, but refuses to use the Help section [Press F1 for help] because that person states it has never helped him before and asks too many questions! :blink

I found the help to be really good!

After that I would suggest calling an expensive consultant (me) to deal with it.

Well, I tend to use the help when I really need to but I prefer looking in any one of my many books for any really useful help. Your friend is right, it does ask too many questions so to avoid that I use the search function.

Being serious for a moment - my experience of the M$ help system is that it isn't much use. I get much better results on-line!

It tends to offer very obvious answers - so I suppose it will be suitable for novices and near-novices. Above that it wants to contact M$ for more info - so without any 'net access that won't work.

Online help is all good boys but here we're talking about help offline...if it were me I would ring someone I know who has the knowledge of what I am asking...I dont use the Help function unless its on a specific program...

I'm a stubborn b@stard and will try every option and setting until I fix it even if it means going three days without food, sleep or water. I will use Windows help but as Harry says, it only answers the obvious questions. MS KB is better but if you're really stuck, Cert Forums is the only port of call!

Now there's an image. What's really worrying is that this thread was twelve posts in before anyone noticed Cheek's freudian slip!

I think it is fair to say that the windows help system has improved dramatically over the years. This is especially true for the server products. However, as has been said, it doesn't usually help in identifying a real issue that is causing headaches for an experienced tech. More often than not it is too simplistic.
