Moving winRAR file to external HDD

    As far as I'm aware when you transfer an archived/compressed file to another hard drive it won't unrar it, you are not actually opening the archive file to view it all you are doing is copying it to another disc.

    i think theres some comfusion here. you can copy the rar file to any where you like as long as the partition supports it and you have enough space. when you actually unrar the file it decompresses it to temporary directory (mines C:\DOCUME~1\grim\LOCALS~1\Temp\) once its completed decompressing it will then transfer the file to the directory be it internal or external that you specified. what i was trying to say is if the drive the temporary directory or the desired location of the file doesn't have enough space you'll get an insufficient space error.

    You are correct in this, but the original question was just to move the file, not to unrar it.
