I'd go for a cheese role and aim for the stars :D

Depends on what you are into. Do you enjoy your current role? I have friends who earn well as CCNP's

    Don't we all mate.

Hard to say really as you don't tell us anything about yourself other than your current job and one of your certs.

Unfortunately, just wanting more money is a career plan that is ultimately doomed to failure as there will always be more, or 'mo' if you like, to be had.

I'd try and focus on shorter term career goals that you can actually achieve which will ultimately be more rewarding.

I'm convinced my brother used to believe £30k a year was the pinnacle of achievement. He would always use the phrase "yeah but it's okay for you, you earn 30 grand a year", which I didn't at the time anyway.

    Hi Guys

    I do administer Cisco gear. I look after a 3750 Stack x 8 a few 3500's a 2800 router. I live in North Lodon.
I went for the 30k mark because. I thought that 40k might be too much at this stage.

I use jobserve and CWjobs, is there any other recommendations out there. Ive noticed its a tough market at the moment

Very tough but seems to be worse for 1st and 2nd line. Experienced 3rd line roles can still be found. I use just those two sites myself. Not much they don't cover between them.

I'd of thought 30k was low for London, no? Unless you mean Lodon which I've never heard of  (joke!)

You are lucky mate because you have a job now so just keep appying for everything you can. It will help if you get involved with as much as you can in your current workplace, projects, other things like VoIP, maybe even some Server support work just to broaden your experience.

Another option is specialising your certs by going for your CCDA/DP, CCSP or CCVP. I think in these difficult times you have to do what you can to stand out just a little so I'm doing my MCSE but with the Security specialism. It helps that I naturally find that interesting so don't do anything that bores you or you may get lumbered with a role you hate. Thats my 2 pence for what its worth

Good luck and keep us updated
    Jim

When I was looking for a job recently I used the sites you mention as well as Monster and the IT job board. It kind of cascaded from there to sites like Huxley and careers and jobs. I had quite a few callbacks from Monster including the role I am currently in which was not even advertised, so it is well worth getting your CV into as many hands as possible.

I don't know what salaries are like there, but the fact that you've got experience will definitely work in your favor. The job market is much rougher at the bottom end. Companies still need (and will continue to need) techs with experience.
