I think this is quite true but they really didn't need to name the 'new' certifications with the same old acronyms. Somehow I think the new name 'solutions expert' is a way to avoid problems with the term engineer. I'm sure that most members here have had a discussion or two about the meaning of engineer.

My 2 cents on the latest offerings from Microsoft. Initially I was confused by the use of MCSA and MCSE. I still am on a few points. I applaud the acronyms coming back but would imagine its a recruiters nightmare.

I think the 3 year re-certification rule is a good idea because it has done Cisco no harm at all. I personally think Cisco certs hold their value much better than Microsoft exams at the moment and don't doubt that it is because you are required to keep them valid every few years.

I'll be starting my 2008 studies finally today so will be happy to get an MCSA for free in the bargain.

Agreed. I was pretty shocked to suddenly be an MCSA - which is why I'm not too bitter about all this.
Even gladder to hear the MCSA doesn't expire.

I've got a feeling, from what MS have written that the new cloud exams won't be based on one exact feature of an OS and so will evolve faster. But there still aren't too many details, as far as I can see. MS are money hungry, but they aren't totally stupid. I don't think they would do anything too drastic with their certs, which is why I'm okay to wait and see how things pan out before I get too worked up about anything.

I think you're right Zig, removing the OS from the cert means its not tied to one OS, which can be advantageous because it means you have all of your eggs in one basket. Yes its more general but as we all know, if you master one of the Windows Server OS's, its not a great leap to get your head around the new release of OS.
