no certs boost your pay that much
knowing your **** boosts your pay
the survey really just indicates that most MS certs are not considered very high bars to entry, and not stupidly difficult

It's all nice and sweet but specialist jobs (which indeed pay more) are not as common. How many jobs requiring IBM/RedHat/Oracle certs are on the market now and how many where having an MS cert will benefit you more.

You have to balance between money and employability. There isn't enough top specialist jobs for everyone.

I agree with what's been said and I see it everyday... job advertisements preferring candidates with MCSE for a low-mid wage and CCNA qualified professionals earning just about the same. The only high paying jobs are those that specialize in one or two technologies with 8+ years of experience. It's a competitive market and you really have to be top notch to get what you want.

Some employers will give you a payrise for gaining certs but all they really do in the end is make you more attractive to an employer especially if you have experience too.

These surveys that quote salary figures related to certififcations have always been lies, there is no way for them to realistically determine this, they generally have an agenda and try to create a survey and manipulate participants to fix the results. Totally meaningless bulls**t !!!

True, from most what i have seen they do not account for mixtures of certs, years of experience, years working for companies, gender (yes it does have an effect), age, contract/permanent and so on.

Also different areas of each country have differing rates of pay, so for example what could be considered a low wage in London is above average in Sheffield for example.

The best way to gauge roughly what you should be earning is to keep an eye out on local jobs boards, and also basically just stop worrying about this, as there is a enough stress in life :)
