I was thinking of doing the upgrade from MCDST to MCTS: Vista but the 70-621 has no books aviaible where as the 70-620 does? So would I be better off doing the 70-620 instead as they both result in the same thing really.

Exam 70-621 can be used as credit for any certification requiring Exam 70-620: TS: Windows Vista, Configuring, as a required or elective exam. In other words, Exam 70-621 satisfies the Exam 70-620 requirement in all cases. MS has a unique way of mapping the exams to suit specfic cert paths. 620 and 621 somehow seems alike but points to different credits when passed. Thats my own understanding though from goin through this

The 70-621 exams is the combination of 70-620 and 70-622 so you will to study and buy books, videos using the 70-620 and 70-622 materials.

That's right :) Not breaking the NDA, the 70-621 exam is done in two parts that corresponds to the above two exams.

So really it would be easier to do the 70-620 as this is only based on one exam while the 70-621 is based on two?

It is entirely up to you whether you decide to do choose the shortcut or the long way. Obviously the 70-621 will be the harder exam because of the combo.

The only pluses of doing the upgrade exam is:

    1. that if you pass first time it's cheaper &
    2. you get both the MCTS and the MCITP cred

That depends. If you want to upgrade your MCDST to MCITP: Enterprise Support Technician certification then you need to take 70-621(Upgrade exam for an MCDST) but for non-MCDST they will be required to take two exams 620(Prerequisite MCTS certification) and 622(professional series). Taking just 620 as an MCDST earns you Vista(MCTS) credits and thats all..

This really doesn't answer his question as to why no books exist for 70-621...

    ...but this one does. Repped.

Right I have researched this a little more and I want to make sure I have got this right the 70-620 seems an easier exam then the 70-621 but this is because if you pass the 620 you become an MCTS: Windows Vista – Configuration but if you do the 621 you become an MCITP: Enterprise Support Technician which is a higher cert therefore it will be more diffcult.

    Have i understood this correctly?

Yes, plus also if you pass the 70-621 you will also get the MCTS along with the MCITP cred :)

OK thanks for all the information. Tough choice now do I do the 620 which looks very similiar to the MCDST but obvioulsy based on vista I think I could do this one within 3 months or do I go for the 621 which will get me two certifications but will be more diffcult and limit what other certs I will be able to do in a year.

If it were my choice I'd hit the 621.

At the start of every year I have to tell my boss what I want to study over the next 12 months and I can only study so much in a 12 month period and as the 620 does not look to diffcult I could hopefully complete it quite easily then move on to soemthing else like ITIL and maybe one otehr cert by the end of the year but as the 621 covers a wider area will take longer to study thus meaning I might not have time to do ITIL and anotehr cert.

Sounds like a sweet deal but imho unless you want to stay in desktop I'd consider doing something more network orientated. Maybe think about the MCSA then upgrade to the 08 track.
