If I want to gain the MCTS .NET Framework 2.0 Windows Applications certification do I need to complete a different certification first? Or can I just do the 70-536 and 70-526 exams?

    Thanks,
    Ben.

You can take the exams separately, the final cert will depend on the combination of exams you pass. Its a progressive track thats designed to scale, you can take as few or as many exams as you like in the MCPD tracks, only the design exams overlap so ideally you should only take one of these.

Am I correct in thinking that I can do the MCTS exams, get the certification, and then later take the others to upgrade my certification to MCPD Enterprise Applications?

    Thanks,
    Ben.

Yes you can take the exams in any order you like, the final exams are the design exams and they give you the MCPD designation.
