if i had gained a mcsa and then wanted to go further to an mcse
would the mcsa qualification count toward the mcse or is it totally unconnected.

    It's a gradual process. You get MCP--MCSA-(+something*optional*)-MCSE.

I don't think (but I could be wrong) that you can use the A+ and the N+ as a replacement for a Microsoft exam in the MCSE path.

Maybe someone could clarify that

what would someone think of doing the MCDST as an elective to MCSA? worth doing it as 2-in-1?

    Zim,

When it comes to jobs MCSA/E does crop up quite a bit, so does MCP sometimes. Can't say ive seen MCDST, but maybe i haven't looked hard enough
