    Hi guys ,
took and passed my 272 before , scored my highest mark yet ( 861 ) which im delighted with as to me its showing a constant development of my undertanding of the concepts used. ( 271 = 850 )

Now the hard part starts , I have hammered alot of the recruiters over the past few days and have seen various roles that would be great if I can get my foot in the door.
I am on the long path the MCSE but as rightly mentioned I dont even want to think about that as it will count for nothing if I cant get some experience behind me.

My ideal senario is to now get my first step on the ladder , work my way up within the company or move other positions as my confidence and knowledge levels develop.

Anyhooos just wanted to shout to someone as its an awesome feeling knowing that you control your own destiny and if I work hard ill get something out of life !!!
Man I wish I knew what I know now when I was wasting my education in school :(

Time to kick ass I think !!!
    Beers all round !!!
The next 12 hours will look like this .....

Yep... you might consider the Network+, but outside of that, hold off on any more certifications till you've got that experience under you. :)

    Congrats!!!

Hi Guys and thinks for your congrats !!

Not only did I pass my 272 on Friday I also got a job offer !!!!
Granted its only a 3 month contract working for the NHS it will be my first role in IT and give me a platform to look for my first " proper " job.
I have a few more irons in the fire , one in particular is offering a long term MCSE training plan .. fingers crossed.

No harm in putting yourself out there is my motto , see what types of jobs are available to a person of my current skillset. So far tho it has all been very positive !!!!

Got a phonecall back today with confirmation of job description and working patterns and im happy to say I accepted it.
With it being a 3 month position I am taking the view that its a " no risk " job as if I dont get as much out of it that I hoped worst case senario then its 3 months experience on my 0 month experience CV.
Best case senario it really helps my confidence , helps me make some more IT contacts , exposes me to new things... and puts 3 months experience on my CV.
The way I look at it is that I win either way.
Yes I would love a high paying MCSE type role , but my feet are firmly grounded due to 15 years experience working up a different career ladder.
You gotta start somewhere and gain the respect of your peers , this is my start !!!
    Wish me luck guys ...

Now that I have just compelted my second week in my first IT job I thought I would post an update.

In summary " I love it " Even tho I know that this is only a stepping stone to bigger things , I get up in the morning and cant wait to get to work. Infact I find myself sitting on the couch either thinking about problems we had and how I can be a part in the solution the next day , or reading up on things that happen that go over my head.
I was never much of a student at school but have really got a " learning bug " about IT .
My current role is basic first line helpdesk , resolving basic complaints ( active directory accounts, passwords etc , network printers and shares amongst other things. The biggest thing I have noticed is how average the service levels were. As a retail manager for 15 years this is certainly one area that I know I can excell in from day one and am please that I have already been acknowledged my my IT manager as being a " breath of fresh air " when dealing with clients.
My plan is to continue my learning until I reach a point when I feel 100% in everything I am being asked , then I will push to be involved in anything above my area. ( Field visits etc )

They are already talking about extending my contract beyond the initial 3 month period , so hopefully this wil happen , I can get to around 6 - 9 months and then look for a second tier position or maybe natural progression here.
    Ill keep you posted !!!
Thanks for the kind words !!

Many first-line IT techs treat work as "work", and many have no desire to excel past that level. And now you see how many of them there are in the workplace. Someone who enjoys their job and who is actively trying to improve their IT career will do exactly as you are doing, and you WILL be a breath of fresh air to a manager.

    Good on ya, mate!

well done, if you can make that impression in your first few days if you keep it up then you'll probably get offered a more permanent role. Most employers like enthusiasm as shows you have the determination and williness to progress which I'm sure you will.

    I acquired MCDST also.

I would like to take on another certification perhaps onto a Network path.
I have an average exposure with networks

Which certification track would you suggest?

    I am eyeing below:

    MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator
    MCITP: Enterprise Administrator
    MCITP: Server Administrator

Are these better than MCSE? or do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

    Depends on your experience level.
How much experience do you have?

EDIT: I just realized this is being discussed in another thread.
