Hey all.. nice to meet you.

Was just after a bit of advice really..

I'm currently in an IT role for a Recruitment Agency and wanting to broaden my skillset basically as I cant see myself going much further in my current role. And only know basic Administration of a Terminal Server e.g - Creating user's, Installing Network Printers etc etc.

I have no qualifications other then a basic BTEC level 3 in IT & computing (which is nothing in the IT world) so was just wondering where i start in regards to maybe some form of training course? and some Microsoft Certification? Is the MCSA best place to start?

I'm only 20 and an apprentice and come stuck! Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks
    Adam

To work on the fundamentals, you could look at the CompTIA A+ (theory/practical knowledge of hardware/software) and N+ (networking).

If you're interested into a MS course - It depends what Operating system you want to learn. Right now, I'd say go straight to Windows 7 (MCITP 7-680) but it recommends 6months-1 year commerical experience.

Since you're an apprenctice, an MTA might be worth looking at - check the Ms learning site as I don't know too much about it.

    Hope that helps.

I wouldn't do an MCSA. First of all old technology and beyond your level of experiance.

Good qualifications to get would be:

    ITIL v3 Foundation
MCITP - Enterprise Desktop Support Technician
N+ A+ - Those these are expensive, expire and not alot of UK employees no about these
MTA Quals (any which your interested in and are relevant to your job)
    Microsoft Office Specialist / Master

Certifications: BSc (Hons), PGc, MCTS:Win 7, MCSA W7/MCITP EDST, ITIL Foundation, Prince 2 Foundation, C&G: Web Design, MOS 07: Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook.

I think a lot of those recommendations aren't going to help you as a first position in IT...just my own opinion (and experience) though.
