    Hey all,
Just a quick update on my new IT job which I started on Monday.
My position (to start with) is an Assets Manager. I will be looking after all the new kit going in and out of the store room and data centres. Also responsible for tracking and ordering new kit, disposing old equipment and setting up new laptops/desktops for new starters.

This will then move on to desktop support (1st and 2nd line). Will be learning Ghost, HEAT, Cisco and MS technologies. The company will fund an MCSE/CCNA etc (which ever is needed). Training will be on the job, so I will have to spend time with some of the other guys and learn what they do.

What do you guys think of this? (This is my first IT job).
Also, what routes could I take after developing into a desktop support engineer? (Systems Engineer/Architect?)
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks 8)

Thanks. How long do you think I should wait before starting to study the MCSE exams?

I would say, the MCDST would be a good place to start. 8)

Did you do the MCDST or go straight to 70-270?

    UK,

The choice is yours, but having done the 270 before the MCDST, I would recommend it in that order; yes MCDST followed by 270.

It is a great Cert that covers a XP and Office, will give you a good foundation for MCSE (you will have done a lot of the work for 270) and can be used as an elective too!

    Good luck.

I dont think MCDST counts as an elective for the MCSE. It only counts as an elective for MCSA. :blink
