I tried to find my old post, but it was over a year ago now so is proving hard to find... therefore a new post to get started.

Some of you may remember that a long time ago (over a year ago) I asked for advice on whether I should leave my permanent job for a 12 month fixed term contract job, well I decided to leave and have always been glad I did, the end of the 12 months came up and I got a 3 month extension, now a permanent job has come up, I applied and have been offered an interview on Monday with a technical test. Even though I have been doing the job itself for nearly 15 months now, I am really bricking it about the interview, I think mostly because I love this job so much as an ICT Technician that I just really want to be able to secure my future to carry on doing it for like forever.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

It might just be a formality for you to get the job mate.

Just do what you have been doing already and you should be fine – the fact that you already got a 3 month extension shows you are doing a good job.

They've said many times they want to keep me, as I am a good worker and get the job done... so yeah like you said probably just a formality to make it all correct with processes.

Cool – approach the interview\test with the right attitude and that should get you through mate.

Good luck! Sure you will be fine. I always find it a little strange when companies choose to do an interview in this scenario.....

I've been in the same boat.

They had to interview me for the job i was already doing after 2 years contracting.

Basically sat in a room with the chief and he ticked everything, was done within 2 minutes - think like Sparky said it's just for HR's record.

If it's questions about the job you're already doing, you'll blitz it.

I think it will be general questions rather than directly about the job I am doing to make it fair for the other guy that has applied that is not currently doing the job but works in a different department.

I have spoken to some mates of mine that I don't work with and they have said there is no point doing any interview prep as with me already doing the job, I should just go in, smartly dressed and see how it ends up going and deal with each scenario / question as it happens. What are your thoughts with this?

I'd prepare as you would for any other interview, that way you won't be caught out. It might just be a formality, but then again, it might not. Better safe than sorry IMHO.
