I've passed! It hasn't sunk in yet, but I finally took the exams and passed Essentials yesterday and IT Technician today - 829 and 842.

I'm grateful to the folks in this forum, which helped to clarify things a lot. Although it has been said before, for anyone studying for the exams I would throughly recommend: -

• Mike Meyers All in One A+ book - covers pretty much everything.
• Professor Messer's A+ videos and site - a great free resource.
• Boson practice exam questions - they give you a good idea of the style of questions >and< explain the answers properly - in fact I'd say they are a study resource as well as testing. Well worth the money IMHO.

(Also thanks to BosonMichael who facilitated me getting the 601/2 practice exams even though they are not on the website any longer).

I thought the IT Tech exam was slightly harder, as there were a lot of "what would you do/say" questions but I'm glad to say that all those hours studying were well worth it!

Now for the Network + !

Glad to be of assistance.

I wish Boson had an updated Network+ exam! It's been on our list of exams to complete for months, but there's always been higher-priority Cisco stuff that pre-empts it every time... just recently, the CCNP stuff. Hopefully we can knock it out soonish... but probably not before you need it! My apologies!

 

Now that really is a pity! I guess you'd better get busy, then! (lol)

In the meantime, I'm off to celebrate!

As far as study time goes Radthrust, it's difficult to say as it was on/off depending on work/family commitments, so it would be different if you didn't have the distractions.

All I can say is that I read the A+ All in One, re-read it and made software flashcards from it to learn from (it works best for me but it's a slog ), watched the Prof Messer vids and used the Boson A+ practice questions before the tests.

So I guess all in all it took a fairly long time, but there again there's a lot to learn.

Good luck Veloce - and watch out for those "what would you say to the customer" type questions!

Any hints on what to focus on specifically?

Do they ask a lot of specifics on socket types, pin counts for ram, pcmcia/cardbus/express card etc?
