May I recommend posting this on your local connexions job website ? I am sure there are various students at College etc that would thoroughly benefit from this, and whom can probably afford to take it on.

A couple of interested people, but as the closing date hasn't come yet nothing solid. Most people, once they find out the "pay" are put off, but then again I don't blame them. I couldn't manage on £80pw.

GBL was interested, but we can't afford him :)

The closing date was suppose to be this week, however the advert didn't make the job section last week, so I believe that we'll be moving the date to next week. Then we'll arrange interviews... hopefully.

That's exactly it. It's a lot cheaper than going to Uni and the lucky recipient will get a load of quals and even better a load of real world experience (with good guys) that they might not get in HE.

I would have thought 3 years was a stretch though - a year to 18 months would seem reasonable.

BTW what's wrong with Wellingborough? No - on reflection forget I asked that...

I would estimate up to 3 years as the A+/iPro is a year's course, the CCNA is a year's course and the MCSA is a year's course at the college. Unless as part of the apprenticeship, s/he can just take the vouchers and not do the courses at college? But at the end of the day, it is down to the individual person and how fast s/he can learn and pass the course(s) :)

Hey Jon, any chance we can advertise at the college also?

Having run a job as part of a placement course for the last four years for a local Uni I can say that what is offered by ken is far better. A placement year on a sandwich course is very intense and a steep learning curve and not always suitable for a long term career in IT support or IT management. What is being offered by Ken's school is pretty spot on for what is needed for a long term career.

@Ken : have you offered it out to other local schools to see if they have any part-timers that might be interested? Happy to send it out to the list if you want.

That does actually depend on the apprentice to an extent, From when I did my apprenticeship and looked into it for that I found that if its a government approved apprenticeship then the minimum wage applies over 19 after a years service, so if you were 17 from your 19th birthday. If its not government approved then minimum wage applies.
I couldn't guarantee this to be the case as a couple of years have passed since then but I just thought I would point it out in case.

    EDIT:
Forgot to comment on the position lol. It sounds like a very good position and is something that I would have snapped up in an instant when I left school, A great start for somebody young and commitment free, I have actually seen a few apprenticeships advertised a bit more local to me but havent applied as the drop in pay is too much.

Many people have already commented that this is a great opportunity for a school leaver and I have to agree. I did an apprenticeship and cannot recommend them enough. I am a new member on this forum and am already amazed at the amount of young people desperate to get on the ladder.

I did an apprenticeship (to Level 3) when I was 18 and managed to complete it in 2 years. I Also recieved MCSA training at New Horizons in Birmingham. I was on approx £200 a week.

I know. I would of snapped this up in an instant, even at my age! As a single person with no comitments in life it would have been perfect and im pretty sure that help can be got with housing benefit and/or working tax credits due to it being such a low income. could be wrong tho
