Just got a mail about IEEE membership. I should have applied when I left college but you know it costs a bit and didnt bother.

So just wondering is there any benefit in getting it?

Well I'm def part of the BCS camp here. I did look at IEEE a while back and contacted them.

Persoanlly I wasn't impressed with the way they treated me and they didn't seem to want to get my membership so I didn't bother in the end.

I would say that you get what you put in. Apart from that, if you're in the UK the two main leading bodies would be either the BCS and the IET. The IEEE, from what I've heard, if more popular over in the US.

And since I am based in Norway, neither of those would really apply nor does IEEE for me right now then

My mistake, as Ken pointed out. It was the IET I was referring to. I've no experience with the IEEE and don't know anyone who is a member.

BCS doesn't seem to have any Scandinavian groups .... you could always start one ! :biggrin

While I wish to promote & expand the BCS world-wide, have you thought about the Norwegian Computer Society (NCS). Their website only has a page in English, the rest is in Norwegian.

My dad tried to convince me that the IET was a good idea, largely because you get access to Savoy Place. The library is fairly incredible but the BCS seemed more relevant to me!
