OK guys I need some help here. I just built a new Server and this is the 1st time I've had or used SATA HD's and I want some help installing windows.

I've built the thing and I'm now ready to install windows2K Server but its not the same as installing on an IDE drive as the installation doesnt pick up my SATA drives. The POST does so I know theres nothing wrong there.

I'm guessing I need to hit F6 on the install wizard to supply extra drivers but I didnt get any drivers with the HD's, maybe there on the MB CD.

Advice please, I waiting and ready to go.

The MB is a Gigabyte GA-8IK1100
    and the HS's are Western Digital:WD2500JD, 250GB 7200 RPM SATA150 drives

the drives dont need any drivers
the controller does so the OS can see the drives!

check your mobo, you may have to make a floppy out of them as i believe windows only scans the floppy drive

its way harder in linux ;)

Well I found the driver for the SATA controller on the Intel site HERE. This little .exe file made a floppy with the drivers for the ICH5R controller on the MB and then hitting F6 during the install wizard then S to specify additional drivers did the trick.

    Thanks, Si :biggrin

...alas, we face the final demise of the 3 1/2 floppy. Progress indeed ! :D

Yet I still don't have a "1/2" key on my keyboard ? :blink
