took my 1st ms exam (271) and just scraped a pass (799)...phew!

but i had the fear throughout exam.

they are so tough compared to academic ones you take at uni/college/school and had me on the edge of my seat til the end.

plus it was the 1st exam i'd taken for almost a decade.
anyway, just wanted to thank the you all for the advice given - trust me, without it, i wouldn;t have passed.

but anyway, just to confirm that hard work by self study really does work and also wanted to stress how important these mock exams are.

Congrats on the pass, and your score was not a scrape. The passing score on any MS Professional exam is 700 (on the mos it's lower), so a 700 is a scrap. But a pass is a pass, congrats.. on to the next one, the 70-272 to finish your MCDST, maybe?

hmmm 272 - tbh - not sure if this whole exam stress is what i really want - i prob will continue but will prob have a long hard think about it.

290 is the one i really want to get but that will be some time down the road.

Well, if you're interested in a long and profitable IT career, exam stress is going to be a part of life. If you don't continue to certify throughout your career, you'll often be on many hiring managers' "back burner".

The exams tend to get harder as you go along, but that difficulty tends to be offset as your real-world experience increases.

    Congrats!

I'll tell you one thing. The euphoria I felt when I left the test centre, it was like a drug. I was already high when I stepped into the nearest pub to celebrate. By the time I'd demolished my third double (scotch on the rocks), I was totally hammered.

    Pure euphoria.

It's worth doing my next exam just for that feeling alone.

Congratulations on the pass. Now that you know the *true* degree of difficulty in passing a certification exam, it will give you a better insight in designing how you study.

Do yourself a favor (and I don't know your work situation or experience) but if you haven't already, try to get as much IT work experience as you can before you collect too many certifications. If your certs outweigh what you've actually done by too much, they'll be more of a liability than an asset.
