    first : the explanation
    [IMG]

    second : the image

i fed up with something !:(

the program i used allows me only center of the page for the drawings

i can't distribute it to left and right edges so my image seems
small and letters can not be read

what should i do for it?

That would be the address of the router. With the router on a stick format, the trunk port is member of all three vlans.
Why do you use 192.168.1.x, 172.16.x.y and 10.x.y.z?
    Why not use 192.168.1.x, 192.168.2.x and 192.168.3.x?
Seems a lot more realistic to me.

As I'm not really familiar with Cisco VLANs I did a little research.

One of the points mentioned in the docs I saw was that there was little point to them unless the number of machines was sufficiently large to make the traditional subnetting style difficult to manage.

So why would VLANs be needed here, with so few machines?

On the software - I suspect that this is because of it being a trial version. You want the bells and whistles - pay for 'em! :biggrin

Actually, I would say that even smaller networks can benefit from vlan's. In fact, I would say any new install (or network redesign) should include vlans right from the start in virtually all cases. It is far easier to do it right from the start than to have to change down the road. I come across situations like this often and it pays to do it right. The cost is about the same, but the flexibility and resiliency is greater.

For a hypothetical bank with 3 floors suppose there are 45 computers on the first floor and 25 on each of the second and third floors, along with 3 servers on the second floor and 2 servers on the third floor. Also, there are 5 network printers on each floor.

I would suggest 8 vlans, as follows:
    - A management vlan providing out of band access to infrastructure.
    - A server vlan.
    - A voip vlan. Even if they don't use voip, have it ready as it is easy to add and voip may be needed later on.
    - Seperate vlans for computers, divided by function. For example, a vlan for teller computers, a vlan for financial services, and a vlan for office computers.
    - A guest vlan.
    - A quarantine vlan. Unused switchports should be in this vlan, as well as suspect compters. No Internet access.

Remember, vlans are relatively easy to implement and offer substantial benefits. Some of the above vlans are optional, but since this is an educational exercise you might as well have fun ;) You might think it is overkill (and it is in some ways) but there are good reasons, especially in financial institutions, for proper segregation of services.

Real world example: I set up a group of three restuarants. This was a clean design with no existing infrastructure. I selected 5 vlans - public wireless, private wireless, data, voip and management. These sites have only a single server and 3-4 computers, along with 5-6 voip phones. Even in sites that small vlans are the way to go.

However,as Cheeks has so beautifullypointed out,, the 'piss take' is not to do with colour, idealism, religion or anything else. bet you can't read this in yellow . Face it, it's in yellow.

Good to have a giggle, ain't it.

No offence to Kobem here, great to have you on board mate.

Possibly less of the arty stuff though. 8)
