I'm working on a project using a technology I dont like, that I think is restrictive. Being dictated to by another team, hung out to dry. Its just not particularly good at the moment.

Gutted for you mate, from your posts it sounded like everything was going great. You are a smart lad with good experience, you shouldn't find it too hard to move on. Sorry to sound dim but you are a developer/programmer aren't you?

I am indeed. Most of the time its not too bad. Just this one project. But its really high profile, and a joint venture - such a pain in the arse and incredibly stressful.

I read once that people with stressful jobs cope by drinking more. Go out with your mates and have a mad one this weekend, book monday off and go nuts. You'll feel much better

    I feel ya man
I've been eying up some options, spent the last six months cleaning up the mess someone else left at about four separate projects, and getting somewhat tired of the lack of resources available :)

Problem is, Boise is a small market, so it may require a move, got some potentials in Portland, Redmond, Bellevue and Seattle, trying to avoid the large cities though, but with my skill set it can't always be avoided, doh!
was just about to buy a house too, get $8000 tax credit if i buy it before the end of April, but I'm supposed to live in it for three years, that wouldn't fly if i move

its not the job of either party in a joint venture to know what the other hand is doing, its their job to do their piece and do it properly

this is where good project management and leadership/direction get added to the mix, they interact with the business level stakeholders and the various technical implementation teams to make sure everything is managed and delivered properly, in the appropriate order

the problem arises when you don't put proper project management in place, or someone who cant manage their way out of a paper bag, i see that more often than not! :)

Thats a tough one but I suppose you can't loose either way. If you stay make sure you get that 8k, it all helps. If you go to a city I'd imagine you be earning more, maybe even the 8k? Get on the property ladder tho mate, its the best advice anyone ever gave me. Had my crib for 6 years in August and making some good progress paying my mortgage off.

On a different note, isn't Redmond where Billy G's small company is? Macro, no Micro somthin???

Redmond pretty much is the MS campus, the thing stretches both sides of the freeway, has its own bus/cab terminal, its crazy to drive through that place :)
probably more prius per capita than any place in the US!

but, there are other outfits there :P
i may live further north in Bellingham, depends on the commute and the home working schedule, thats about 20 mins from the Canadian border, about 86 miles north of Redmond, but i dont relish the i5 commute!

I turned 30 this year and promised myself I was going to step my career up a notch so who knows, maybe one day I'll work somewhere decent. I quite fancy somehwere mad like Alaska. How was your trip there (sorry to go off topic)
