Some of you may not even know who I am, that probably because I'm not around all that much these days. That's been due to a busy life and work and all the other things life deals at you.

Well to cut a long story short, I had a few personal issues last year that put me in a position to re-evaluate my priorities and one of the outcomes was I wanted to do more for myself and others. So like a loon I decided to run a half marathon, the Great North Run to be exact!!

I've never been known for my fitness or interest in sporting activities and unless its over a few pints down the local and the most energy I exert is getting a round it then I'm not interested. So as I own this place (that's not true as the premium members and google ads do really) I thought I''d pimp myself and see if I can raise both awareness and of course sponsorship.

you are mental. Theres only two things that will make me run:

    1) big dogs chasing me

    2) An ice cream truck in front of me.

Edit: Good to see you again mate. Stop being a stranger.

Hi & welcome to CF, please introduce yourself here...

Mate, you're crazy 13 miles... How you seen how many people have died on this run? You might as well have used the Running Man instead of Run Fatboy Run poster :)

Anyway, seriously have a great time, especially running for an excellent cause.

Props, Si. Maybe your training will motivate me to get off my butt and run the Country Music Marathon (hopefully I won't have to endure the music too much).

Dude... you could make this work!!! All you need are big dogs chasing you towards an ice-cream truck for 13.1 miles!!! :thumbleft

Well i wouldnt worry about dropping dead, you could get hit by a bus any day etc. But im worried about your suddent choice, i think you could do with conditioning your body depending on how long you have left.

Drinks wise, cut the beer out, and if you smoke, then dont, and give yourself plenty of prep time. A great tip that i swear by is have an ipod with high tempo music, stuff that gets you motivated. The rocky tunes really help, eye of the tiger, also watch rocky films, after i used to watch them for some reason id run non stop for about 3 miles, then it wore off lol

I'm doing OK with my training, I'm on target ish. I did and 8 mile run yesterday and I've done 21 miles this week, I've got to step it up for the next two weeks with 24 then 26 miles for the week. Then taper down to the run on September the 20th. I've been off the booze for over a month now and I dont smoke so I'm heading in the right direction. Its hard work though mate.... :)

GL with it Si, my wife did a half marathon before running the London Marathon twice. She siad the half marathon was more difficult. :) It was mainly becuase it was more difficult terrain though I think (more hills etc..)
