Well I handed in my notice yesterday, all very sudden. I got a call on Thursday asking me to telephone interview with someone, this company had been looking for a Windows and Virtualisation specialist since November and hadn't been having much luck.

Initially this was supposed to be a telephone and would be followed up with a face 2 face if I were successful on the phone.

Having answered a number of questions (some of them I couldn't answer completely) I felt sure that I had blown it, suprisingly however not only had I passed the phone interview but they wanted to offer me the position there and then. To say I was shocked would be an understatement.

Anyway, I received copies of the job offer over the weekend and resigned from my current position yesterday.

There are a number of factors as to why I have done this, I could potentially have been in this role for another 9 - 12 months (having already been in it for 9+ months already) but in the time I have been here I have felt that things were just not working out for me.

1, I was commuting 4+ hours a day by car.
2, I had taken a massive drop in salary when I took the role on, come contract renewal I then had to take a further rate cut.
3, My projects never actually finished, I was brought on board to deploy DPM and SCCM, having successfully deployed DPM I started the SCCM deployment only to be sidetracked into deploying UAG and OWA (not an issue from my perspective, after all it's more skills) but I was then informed I was needed to redesign their AD and that they were going to bring in someone else to finish off the SCCM deployment.
4, Virtualisation......... no matter what I did with regards to virtualisation I may just have been banging my head against a brick wall. It will never happen here and I think that's the wrong decision.

With these factors in mind (and they are not the only ones) I decided knew it was time to move on.

Surprisingly both my boss and the agent have been really great about it, I was really expecting my boss to blow his top but he understands that I need to survive financially and the only way to do that was with a new role (they sure as heck weren't going to increase my daily rate by the required £60pd that I would need to bring me in line with the lower end of the market rates).

I have a couple of days of tidying up my documentation and then on Friday its goodbye NHS Trust.

Major congrats and good luck with the new role :thumbleft, I’m in the same situation at the moment, were I’m travelling more, getting less and it’s not a job that offers any progression. I’m looking for something better in terms of learning more skills and if the pay is reasonable then that wouldn’t hurt. Anyway its always good to make a fresh start in a new role were your appreciated
