Excellent news James and great subject matter. I trust it isn't just a copy and paste from our A+ forum

Actually, it's less "A+ centric" than the title suggests. It's more styled as a "year in the life" of a newbie PC Tech working in a large company's IT department. The promotional blurb on Amazon isn't quite right. The book is broken down into 4 phases but they are:

    1. Installing Hardware and Software
    2. Maintaining and Documenting Computer Systems
    3. Networking Computer Systems
    4. Troubleshooting and Restoring Computer Systems

The troubleshooting section is particularly interesting because all of the "tasks" are based on my "trouble tickets" from a temp job I held sometime back as a PC Tech for a city government IT dept. In other words, they are "real to life" and not canned exercises that don't map to the real world.

    Things like:
    "Troubleshooting a Randomly Rebooting PC"
"Troubleshooting a CD Player not Recognizing Audio CDs"
    "Troubleshooting Empty Outlook Contacts Folder"

It's written for the newbie PC Tech who may be studying for or already have an A+ but has little or no "real life" experience. The exercises or "tasks" in this book are meant to walk the reader through the steps necessary to perform the actual work they'd be doing "on the job". Each task is about 3 to 6 pages long depending on the complexity and the majority of them can be done with the hardware and software you have in your home lab.

I'm just about done with the writing and am starting to get material back form the editors for me to go over. Glad you are all so enthusiastic about this one. Cheers. :D

I did enjoy the write up of your other book, the 'Master Visually' one.

Apparently the book boasts 'nearly 450 pages'.
    How nearly?
    Are we talking 449?
Couldn't you be bothered to count them?

Even better though, you get 'a two-color interior'.
    What?
    Black and white?

    I'd sack your agent...

    :biggrin

Never mind the discount, what about the 50 free copies your publisher is legally entitled to provide?
    Seriously though, congratulations mate.

Jonny...the agent doesn't write that stuff...the publisher does. Actually, I usually send some of those copies to folks on the condition that they write a review on Amazon, Bookpool, etc. Unfortunately, you are all (most of you anyway) in the UK and I'm in the US. The cost of sending even one book overseas is pretty substantial.

Here's amazon.co.uk's pricing on the book. Besides, the more that sell, the more the publisher will want me to write other books (and the more royalties I'll make).

Another fabulous success story, Trip - and once again I am honoured to say I know you. Well done, big guy :thumbleft

Now I guess we advise "Mike Meyers All-in-one A+, plus James Pyles PC Technician Street Smarts for supplpementary reading" for the A+ ?:biggrin

..and I'm sure you could sneak a copy over to us for a competition prize that we could set up ? Maybe we could even have a whip-round here to cover your postage ? Hey, you don't ask, you don't get ... :tune
