Ok, do you have a link to the mic?
What plug do you have the mic plugged into?
What sound card do you have?

Guys often in the recording device frame the option check box is not for mute
but to select the desired source

in which case the correct selection has been made

I'd check the application is using the correct source, sometimes they try and use non existent devices, or non connected ones, I've had that problem with skype and MSN in the past, its usually easy enough to fix though

and to echo AJs post above
if you have nothing to add to this thread, or just don't want to
    then don't

ok here is a thought. Does anyone know what os he is using? And if it just happen to be vista, could it be that software for the mic is not compatible with vista?

He's got quite a track record, Mitzs. :biggrin Until he proves different just once... then I believe I'm justified. And if you don't agree... then just don't agree. :)

For the record... I posted my reply before reading AJ's post. If you guys want to delete them, go right ahead. But I have just as much right to post as do other members of this forum. Sorry... that's just my opinion. If admins decide to start silencing folks, then I've got better things to do. That's one of the reasons Cramsession fell apart.

Michael, you have every right to post whatever you like as long as it is within the rules and guidlines of this forum, specifically the snippet posted by AJ earlier. The staff here are very reluctant to take any action at all, let alone silencing good members such as yourself for having a bit of fun. The problem comes when others join the bandagon, the balance of humour is lost and the thread turns into something which could be miscontrued as collective ridicule and scorn.

Michael that is not at all why CS feel apart, that crap starting happening after it started falling apart. Lets not go there please, specially when you do not have the facts in the correct order.

Kobem, have you tired the suggestion posted by theprof? I had a similar problem a while ago when I hooked up a mixing desk to my creative card and it would not record anything through the mics.

I looked in control panel and it turned out there was a mic built into the webcam and that was selected in control panel. After I changed this to the soundcard everything worked ok. 8)

Ok, do you hear anything through the speakers when you plug the mic in? You should hear a crackle (somebody give me the technical term please!) when the mic is plugged in even if it is not working.

Pedanticaly - white noise is a combination of all frequencies - named after white light. It sounds like a strong hissing/rushing noise. The noise an unmuted FM receiver makes when not tuned in is close to white noise.

Most sound engineers use 'crackle' for the effect that Sparky is describing. :biggrin

Cool, so there should be some sort of crackle noise if the mic is powered up and being plugged into the correct jack. 8)
