I remember when that site started up - it used Bit Torrent as the file sharing protocol. They must have been at this for years...I can't believe how stupid these people can be. Fools!!!

Good but whilst people are willing to get stuff for free then sites like this will always exist.

Well I don't understand why you would think they are fools, maybe due to copyright issues, but everyone breaks them even without knowing, but they still break then none the less.

I use torrent sites, I don't consider myself to be a fool, although I know your comment wasn't an attack on me.

I take it you didn't read the background on this? What they were doing was illegal. To take the piss even further they made money from it. And to top it off they demonstrated their foolishness by keeping it up and running for so long on servers hosted in the EU - UTTER FOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So yes they are fools! In fact to call them fools is an insult to the word 'fool'.

And your comparison to them and others breaking copyright rules is way off the mark - these idiots took the piss! Bigtime!

To run a torrent site, you are just asking for trouble, to use one is a different story. I never read the background on it though, I heard the story on the radio yesterday.

I'll admit that I used to use Oink (the site in question that had been shut down). It was great for rare and un-released material (like bootleg concert recordings). I always buy the music of bands that I really like and used Oink for music that I literally coudln't buy. I am surprised it lasted as long as it did to be honest.

People who use torrent sites are also subject to the same treatment to these group of dimwits. I would imagine that the 180,000 paid up members to Oink are also subject to legal action if it really came down to that. The authorities have got all the names of those involved in running the site and using the site; the details being obtained from credit card transactions through paypal etc.

Don't think for one minute that just because you USE bittorrent that you are somehow immune to legal action - BT swarms are regularly monitored by companies that the RIAA and MPAA contract to do this work. Those companies submit their findings and evidence to the whoever pays them. I know of 2 people that downloaded King Kong when it first came out in the Cinema and they where warned by there ISPs for doing it - the MPAA had contacted the ISP with the IP addresses of 2 of my work collegues.

Using a bittorrent site isn't a different matter; you'll be nailed if you are caught...they're stories all over the net of this happening. And it's one of the main reasons I stopped using BT years ago - too many noobs giving the game away!

In the meantime here is a full article of what happend with Oink: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1572554/20071023/id_0.jhtml

yeah but people grow and see sense.

What I mean by that is yeah I used to have lots of copied films, but all I am doing is making the film cost more to buy legit.

    Its the same with Everything.

Do you really thinka CD album would 14.99 if no one had ever made a copy of an album before.

When you buy a dvd or cd some of the cost is because the respective industries have to invest in programs and companies to stop illegal copying.

I don't know who that is aimed at but you have to watch what you're saying as you are implying/assuming that we/all are thieves!

Based on your previous posts, I can see that the B.C.S. module still hasn't been introduced into University Degree courses!

Sorry GBL but that is a common misconception! You have to understand that the artist doesn't get very much - in some cases it is £1 per unit sold! The rest of it goes towards producers, promoters, shareholders, publishers, middle-men that do nothing and lots of other cling-ons.

The amount they put into anti-piracy is minimal - besides it's the RIAA and BPI that pursue the downloaders. They are paid for by a fund of sorts that Record companies contribute to!

Sorry deviate from the point but where artists can make a mint is on royalties - but that is dependent on the deal that was signed!

I always assumed that some of the cost would go towards anti piracy etc.
