The minute I have more space I am so getting another ML115... these servers are perfect for these kinds of labs... I actually ordered a few for work and setup a couple of them up and retired old servers...

Arghh, going to have to wait until the 31st Dec '09 or 5th Jan '10 as they wanted to charge me twice for delivery as the Memory and Linksys Wirless N USB Adpater where at a different depot.

Fingers crossed they all arrive the day after tomorrow :D

is the Linksys Wirless N USB Adapter for this machine?

because it probably wont work with ESXi it has a restrict compatibility list (this is where hyper-v has benefits as it can use server 2008 drivers through the parent partition which runs 2008 server)

    Yes, it is.

I'm going to be running Hyper V for a while, then once I have passed my MCSE upgrade to MCITP: EA, I'm going to flatten it and get down with some VMware ESXi.

By then, I will have convinced the wife to let me leave the 10M Ethernet Cable plugged in between rooms back to my router :D

Have you thought about trying a pair of ethernet over power adapters instead of wireless or a trailing cable. Got those in my house and they work surprisingly well considering.

Seems like we all get the "talk" - my setup is even smaller, two 17inch screens and a laptop and I get questioned by the gestapo!

Man you think those are loud
plug in a rack with three C7000's fully populated with BL490cs ;)

its like the flight deck of an aircraft carrier hehe

Anyone know if the ML110 G6 will work? its not on the HCL, but neither is the 115 or 110 G5 anymore either, the lowest ML listed is the 150 G6, those are 900 bucks a pop, the 110 G6 is 400 :)

Both the CPU (Xeon x34xx) and NIC (HP/Broadcom NC107i 1G LOM) are on the list, not sure about the RAID controller as i don't know the spec. x3430 and x3440's FT, Direct Path and the integrated LO100i remote management controller as standard are certainly welcomed.

    Well they haven't arrived today.

So it will be the New Year before I receive the goods.

I feel like a kid in a sweet shop, who has been told he can't have anything (for a few days at least)...

I don't see why they shouldn't CPU, RAID Controller and NIC would be the main components in my view.

I know that some of the new Intel Hp ml115's don't have VT support I believe HP are trying to move customers to other models.

I have a ML115 and a Dell T105 which are nearly identical hardware but the ML115 is like a jet engine taking off compared to the Dell.

Shame you weren't snowed in like me you could of had a day off playing.
I really like my m115 set-up, I am sure you will be pleased

if you have seen my thread regarding redundant DCs in VM's, you'll see that i am thinking of getting some m115's or the new 116's for a branch at work.

I'm going to award myself the c*ck of the year award!

I ordered the right RAM, just the wrong size, so it don't fit in the slots, what a plonker :oops

Ouch! Did it come with any as standard? Or can you not switch it on yet?

You think they'd ask if the RAM was for the ML115 wouldn't you, given I assume it was all in the same order, or is that too much like proactive customer service? 8)

Ah no way, gutted for you mate. Easily done with the plethora of RAM on decent sites. You can have the 1GB that came with mine if you want? The 4 x 2GB sticks meant its lasted in a drawer somewhere. Trouble is its the 1GB that comes with the ML so you then won't be able to max it to 8GB which is ideal for home lab / loads of VM madness :biggrin
