Congrats on getting your foot in the door. One thing I've found in my experience is that you can progress quickly and increase your earning potential by showing initiative and working hard. I'm not saying this is typical, just what I have found in the places I have worked. Jim

I agree with GBL. At 19, £7 and a entry position in IT, you're doing great. Just work hard and the money will follow :D

My first year (third year of uni - internship) paid 13, 000 full time. Can't say that it has changed much in the 2 years since much either ;p - thats what happens when u work in the public sector tho.

Funny enough I'll never forget my 1st IT wage either because it was so random, 13,333. I kid you not ha ha Once I stopped worrying about the money it came to me, probably because I concentrated more on performing well and trusted they would recognise that. I was lucky that they did.

File this under 'Beeswax, none of yours incorporated'

Seriously - that might come across as flippant, but it's a genuine remark - most people are a little bit reticent to give out their salary information.

FWIW, mine is above £40k but below £60k :biggrin

I agree. I'd possibly put myself in a bracket but am not the type to say X amount. I've found in my career people can get jealous unfortunately, and thats not an admission of mega bucks by the way.

My own flavour of guarded response now is "enough to pay my share of the bills, but not quite so much that I don't whinge about it from time to time".

I personally think there's an interesting line that ive certainly found in my career which is that contracting is usually higher paid because of the nature of the contracts.

If your new to the industry you might like to weigh up the pros and cons of that being a perm or job hopping. :)

My Pay is enough for me at the moment, I could be earning more, but am enjoying my role and the team I work with and I am building up the CV in some areas which could use building up and strengthening other areas.

As ive said to people in the past sometimes more money doesnt mean better job, just more money to drown your sorrows with at the end of the week.

As someone who keeps their eye on jobs mine is about what I should expect at the moment. Of course, i'd love to earn more, but as everyone says: keep plugging away.

Geneva and Zurich have very high salaries for someone working in a bank. For example, a colleague of mine who is highly spcialised and one of 5 in Europe with that partiular skill set, earns about £200k.

Having said that, cost of living is also notoriously high over here, so make of that what you will...
