OK, I probably should knows this and I looked in MS mcp/learning with no joy.

Can an exam count towards 2 certificates?

Initially, I started on the MCSA 2000 track and I have passed the following: 210,215 and 216. I only need the 218 to get my MCSA.

Whilst I was looking into MCDBA, I noticed that 215 and 216 could count towards the MCDBA so I stopped studying for 218 in fear of 'using up' 215 and 216.

Is my thinking correct? or can I still use 215 and 216 to get the MCSA and MCDBA?

They dont just count towards one cert so dont worry about "using them up" :)

Your 215 and 216 can be used in both certifications.

Really?! that's good news. Not that, I'm doubting you but is there a link from MS? cause I couldn't find it.

The exams are the same regardless of which track (if any) you are going for. Why would you need to take the same exam again just because you wanted to persue something different, or add to your skills?

    Don't want really :)

Those exams are core for the MCSA but electives for the MCDBA. So, I don't have to take the same ones as they are electives. But if they count, then why not use them towards the MCDBA cert (that's what I was hoping anyway).

Passing an exam is passing an exam. You don't "use it up" by applying it to a particular certification... exams you passed are always counted towards your credit.

For example, when you passed 70-210, you became an MCP. Passing the other exams in the MCSA track will make you an MCSA, but you don't have to retake 70-210, do you? Of course not. Similarly, you can take the remaining exams in the MCDBA track and become an MCDBA.

Check my sig - if anyone would know about applying an exam to multiple tracks, it would most definitely be me. :D
