Hi as most of us here are planning to get into IT this was a very good post.

I notice you said about doing some voluntary I.T work but how would you go about doing that.

    Congratulations and good advice.

Only problem is other people do not have the advantage of applying for lots of IT jobs in London which you are based compared to other areas of the country.

Hi can someone advise me on job hunting?

At the moment I am working as a Health Advisor at NHS Direct. I am trying to look for 1st line/service desk positions. I am regularly doing searches on these positions on the net. However I am having little luck as all of them require experience. One company I know in my area takes on staff without experience/certs which is Computacenter, however they are not recruiting at the moment or through agencies.

Can anyone offer me any other tips or strategies that I am missing that will further enhance my job search?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

I'm currently thinking of applying myself to some voluntary areas of IT, however, I have no idea where to go with it. Would a local computer shop suffice, or should I aim a little bigger initially to gain extra merit for the location of my effort? If anyone has done this, could they possibly list a few good ideas? It would be really helpful for a newbie to the industry xD

    Thanks in advance
