How do I go about creating a vm with mac os? (I already have a mac)

I attempted this about a year ago on my windows system but got nowhere. Can someone point me in the right direction? I have a mac with el capitan on.. is there away of getting the iso?

What do you want to do, put a windows OS on it?

Just use vmware fusion, not sure if you can get a free version?

No I want to run mac os virtually on my macbook so I can do thingsin a test environment

 

I did it using VMware Fusion and it was pretty straight forward, never used Parallels or Oracle's VIrtualBox so can't advise on that.

Have a look at - http://www.online-tech-tips.com/mac-os-x/install-os-x-in-vmware-fusion/ for some advice on using VMware Fusion to do it.

 

Ive just used Virtualbox on a Mac to install Linux Mint if that helps mate.

 

@SimonD where do I get the mac dmg/iso, you cant get it from the app store, dont know why people say you can?

 

@Jaron78 yeah I use VB to run Windows the big issue is compatibilty and Apple make it ridiculously hard to get hold of the OS file. I am currently upgrading my mac os to sierra and managed to copy the installer.. Im wondering if I can use the installer to install mac os on vmware fusion.. not even sure if possible or how to do it.. guess I will google but fedup of hitting dead ends and bad information.

 

Hold fire.. think I've done it I installed the OS on VM fusion from the recovery partition on my mac
