I was talking to several colleagues recently who mentioned it was a real pain having to rebuild his home lab vCentre environment every sixty days.

They did not know that VMware offer NFR (not for resale) licenses, which are available if the company you work for is a VMware Partner.

VMware provides partners with access to a number of VMware software products to enable a successful VMware virtualization practice. Not for Resale (NFR) software is available to partners for product demonstration and training purposes only. One year of subscription services is included with NFR software as long as the partner remains in good standing within the parameters of the VMware Partner Program.

How Does My Company Receive NFR?

NFR licenses are automatically delivered by VMware to the headquarter location upon membership progression (such as Registered to Professional or Professional to Enterprise) and release of new products. Licenses that are provided as part of the NFR offering are delivered to the License Administrator via ESD (Electronic Software Distribution) or to the primary contact if a license administrator has not been identified

Ah same way I bagged my Mrs ha ha No seriously tho sorry mate, how to become a partner with VMware/Microsoft etc, I do not know. Being just a small cog in the machine I have zero visibility of such things so I'd be interested in knowing myself.

VMware offers a few different partner programs, however if I remember correctly you do or did work for an MSP. As such you would probably got for 'Solutions Provider' status VMware Partner Network: Solution Provider

I don't think there are any pre requisities, but I would recommend doing the VSP and VTSP which are free courses and exams within VMware Partner Central which you sign up as an individual and then affiliate yourself with the company you work for.

Thanks mate – was speaking to the boss today about this and we might move some of our current customers onto VMware rather than Hyper-V as part of their virtualisation strategies.

Slightly off topic but this week was the first time I've heard one of our customers moving from VMware to Hyper-V.... although they are keeping a very small VMware setup. I can only imagine that it is cost related. Sorry back on topic :)

Yup, heard similar things. We are looking at what server 2012 has to offer with Hyper-V as well.

Keep getting asked about VMware work tho! :)

You know Microsoft, they can afford to operate at a loss those fellas just to increase their market share. I'm looking forward to getting stuck into 2012. As much as I love all things VMware its nothing without a decent server OS
