Hi all,

So I'm looking to start something new as I currently working as a Field Service/ Production Debug Technician working as a Contractor for Jabil Circuits.

As with many Electronics Factories they are planning on moving the work to Eastern Europe, but they may keep the Field Service business here in Scotland so with hearing this news I have decided that I might as well start training myself up again but no more Electronics.

Back in 2003 I finished my HNC Electronics, what a waste if time.

So with that said I was looking for something new, I pretty good with PC's and Microsoft software, I've built & repaired many PC's.

SO I was looking at this MCDST course thinking this would be a good place to start. I've been over at Cramsession and read through the study guides and I understand a fair bit of it but some bits I know nothing about.

I was also looking at A+ compared to MCDST and it seems MCDST is slightly ahead of A+ according to Cramsession.

Hopefully this site will prove a good source on information, well it has already.

Welcome mate. I'm sure we'll find this place great - I just joined a couple days ago and already it's really helped.

 

Doesn't matter if the MCDST is "slightly ahead" of A+... the A+ is where most people start out as a tech. The MCSA is ahead of the MCDST... does that mean you should start out there? Or perhaps you should start at the CCNA level? Heck, if you're looking for being "ahead", go for the CCIE, mate!

Certainly the MCDST is worthwhile. But I would recommend crawling before you walk, and walking before you run... knock out the A+ (and perhaps, Network+ as well) before starting the MCDST. If it's merely a review for you, it won't take you long at all... and if there's stuff on there you don't know, then all the more reason to study it!
