Hi! I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone.

Well here I go ... My name is Dave & I've just recently turned 26. I'm currently living & working in Worcester (UK)

I have decided to re-train to make myself more employable and to bulk out my CV a little.

I am thinking of taking the Cisco CCNA Certification route and would like to know if this is a good idea for someone who has no actual IT experience whatsoever.

Qualification wise, at best only a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computing from Worcester College of Technology.

My current aim is to better equip myself for the BIG move down to London next year. I plan to live and work there for a few years, depending on if I can actually find a job that pays enough to cover the cost of living in London.

Ideally I'd like to be CISCO CCNA certified before the big move, but I would be content with just a Comptia A+ or Network+ Certification for the time being.

What are your thoughts and what would you nice people do if you were in my position?

Thanks to everyone for reading this post!

    Regards,

    Dave.

Greetings, Dave. Welcome to CertForums. Glad you found us. If you have no IT experience at all, the CCNA might be somewhat ambitious. At least go for the Network+ (the A+ might even be better to give you a grounding in general computer hardware) before attempting the CCNA. The CCNA may be an "entry level" cert, but there's a lot to it.

Have a look around the Cisco forums and see what you think. Let us know what we can do to help. :)

Hi, Dave. Welcome aboard and good luck with your cert (whichever you eventually go with). Nothing to add with recommendations other than if you're really green with Networking the A+ might be a better start (the networking is basic and is a nice intro before the Network+). If you're OK with networks and don't intend opening machines much then just leap into the Network+...

    Hi Dave,

    Welcome to CF.
I agree with what everyone else has said. To be honest even if as Keith said you have no intention of opening up computers the A+ makes a great foundation. :D
Hope you stay around. There is always plenty of good, honest help here. :thumbleft

Many thanks to all that have replied or intend to reply!

It's nice to know that I'm not alone in choosing the certification route to becoming more employable!

I've always wanted to know if there was such a forum in the UK that deals with IT certification issues and it seems I've finally found you - C.F. :D

Thanks again for welcoming me aboard - much appreciated!
