    That's certainly the right book!

Also worth finding some old PCs that people are throwing out and use them as training aids. i.e. disassemble them - compare with the book, etc.

    G'day 8)

I agree, you have picked the best place to start studying.

However, to really make an impact and to survive in this industry you need to be good. The competition is huge, everyone thinks they could be a computer tech but in reality, much like most things in life, only the gifted talented people tend to succeed. Do not make the mistake of thinking that IT is easy to get into or jobs with good money are plentiful. They are as rare as an Aussie without thongs.

If you have what it takes i.e. determination, talent, experience with troubleshooting complex issues, an affinity with computers and all things related, a passion for continual learning and good customer handling skills. The world is your oyster but don't expect to get rich quick :D

Hiya and welcome to the forums. I am self studying the A+ and it is definitely a good idea to get an old PC to take apart. Good luck.
