Came accross this site while looking into getting a MCDST certification. I am currently working from home repairing customers PC's but need a more reliable income, employment. No one cares that I can do the job they just want qualifications so here I am.

I am a NVQ2 qualified refrigeration engineer, which I may have to go back to in order to finance this certification, but have always had a keen intrest in PC's. If only I could have my time again the government would be paying. Damn heinseit.

Anyway I will first be looking for info on where to start, who to see and what I should know.

Hopefully the search will be my friend.

Probably why the employers ask for a cert is in the past people have said they can and will do anything in the interview and probably couldn't. Also how do you know that your knowledge/skills are upto date?

Then there's the other side that by getting a cert and having the experience your more likely to get on the short list because the other candidates did not have the certs or work experience!

You haven't said how you're planning to prepare for the MCDST, but from the post it seems like you're looking at a training provider. Whether that's the case or not, have you looked at self-study options? Will probably save you time & money.
