Going to visit Apprenta today in Birmingham. I have read all you guys had to say about them. I got Friday off, from work so I thought I'd go anyway and see it for myself.

I have done the first stage of CCNA which I thought was a lot of reading but simple to understand. The course was available free to the voluntary sector, so I did it because I needed to netork 5 PC's at work. Turns out the course did not teach any thing about configuring the MS software for networking. So my boss pulled me out before the second stage.

Any how, I want to enter the IT field permanently as I really enjoy this. I learned MS Access in 18 hours by buying the college course material and learning it at home. I built a database for a hospital and they were impressed since I have built several smaller databases. Though I do not know any VBA or SQL. I can upgrade hardware in my PC but I dont really do that alot. I am more interested in software and application development.

I am applying to £15K jobs as junior/1st line IT support not entirely sure if I am qualified but very willing to learn. Can you guys suggest the most appropriate path into the industry where at the end I can be software/application developing.

I got back from Apprenta today. It was quite interesting and very tempting. Yes its expensive but they also have the longest classroom hours (6 months). I have been to Cerco Training, Computeach, Student Campus (James Thornton Group), Advent and now Apprenta.

Their is something fundementally wrong intaking large sums of money off people looking to make an honest living. Thats my conclusion.

I already have a degree, from the days of 100% maintenance grants. So I am not used to paying for an education straight out of my pocket.

My commitment should be strong enough so I will train myself and get any old job to pay the bills.

I hope I am as lucky as some of you in getting a break into IT.

Welcome aboard. I think everyone has there own story on how they *broke* in to IT. Persistancy is the key. You already have experience and valuble projects to add to your CV. Maximise on this and keep at it. May the force of CF be with you!

15k job compared to 18-25k promised by training companies - it's a big jump. I would invest in the training companies if they delivered or guaranteed me the waje jump.
How much does each one charge please?
