    Hi and welcome to CF!

If the budget is that limited why not pick up some of the books for the cert and try the self-study route, as you have already suggested. It will be a *lot* cheaper than paying a comercial training company! And in the end, if you decide that you need such a course, they will be useful reference material.

    Harry.

Welcome to CF, glad you joined :)

You haven't mentioned how well you know programming/software engineering or if you have done any academic courses behind you. If you're really just starting out, I would recommend doing a C&G or BTEC/Edexcel course first to get the basics, then do the MCAD, etc.

However if you already have mid to indepth knowledge then you have two options, either self study or attend a training course (I would recommend your local MS academy/local tech or college instead of a private training company as they normally are more expensive).
