    Hi guys

I'm Mark from Hampshire UK and I'm looking to get into an IT based profession in the hope that I can get a step up on my way to leaving the UK in a couple of years.

I built and maintained PC's and Home based networks for 8Years or so and have self taught in all these areas but I do not have any formal qualifications to get me into a career in the industry.

I have been looking at the A+ One and Two course to get me certified in areas that I'm quite well versed and then maybe doing a MS course or a Network course after to broaden my field.

I'm hoping you guys can help me in the right direction!

    Thanks

    Mark :biggrin

    Hi and welcome to CF!

Why do a course? It sounds as if you are sufficiently well-practised that you could self-study A+ and pass it fairly easily! And it would be a lot cheaper!

Thanks guys, I said course but I would prefer home study due to current knowledge, so a question is already awaiting.

    But my question was...

1.How/where can you sit the exams

At a test centre, there are two companies that licence test centres, Prometric or Pearson Vue.

2.How much do the exams cost

Depends on the exam and method of payment, usually £80-£150.

3.Which centres in UK allow you to sit only the exam without signing up for the course

Most centres allow this, however some have restrictive times, check on Prometric or Pearson website or PM me your nearest town.

4.How has done the self study route and exams, and can you give me any more insight

A large proportion of people here have undertaken some form of self study, there was a recent survey.
