    Hi guys/gals

I'm not really sure what to say here, never really liked these introduction threads but here goes.

I'm 24 and work on an IT Helpdesk for a council acting as first line support. I've been working here about 5 years and have come to the realisation that they are not going to pay to get me trained/certified in anything at all.

Paid for ECDL myself when i was just temporary staff, after 6 months on the Helpdesk I basically walked it but at least I've got it. I'm getting an NVQ funded by the council but only because they didn't meet some appreticeship requirement from the governemt and my boss has only let me go on it because it doesn't cost him any money. I have realised my career is going no-where while i'm here so in order to move on i'll need to get some creds.

That leads me to where I am now, about to sign up/self study for the Comptia A+ IT Technician course to do in my free time. Looking to go to Network+ (I think thats what its called) and then probably the MCDST. At this point even just moving across to another first line post would be a bonus.

Well, it seems that my intro turned kinda rant-like...I suppose it was actually quite true to form then. :p

    Welcome to the forum

Sounds like you have a good solid plan in mind, for someone with experiance self studying the A+ and the MCDST would be the way to go, paying someone to teach you how to do what you do already isn't necessary. Save the money and buy the study books instead.

    Good Luck.

It's supposed to be in Customer Services and it was supposed to start 4 months ago. :dry I finally got to sign the paperwork just before Christmas and noticed that they'd actually signed me up for Business Administration. I brought this up and they did change it but I still haven't been told whether it will be a level 2 or 3 as no one has contacted me to evaluate my job role etc. That being said, appartently I'm having a status review with the college advisor on Monday...even though I've not started yet...

Oh well, I suppose I'll get there in the end. :dry
