    It's daft.

In a modern culture, surely it should be considered a good thing that the name means something to young children to the point that they want to associate it with something that is important to them.

Surely it isn't an uncommon name.
    Or is it?

What would happen if parents named their child Mohammed?
Do they get stoned, or what?

    How does that work then?

Just gets boring after a while doesn't it? Not only that, but it means you take a religion and it's followers less and less seriously

The school is now closed til January because of safety fear.

    Really boring

    Totally agree cockles.

Now I don't want to turn this into a religious thing but it is exactly this sort of thing that makes me think, what good do religions do if people following them do things like this.

    Likewise mate.

So far as I can gather, any religion is always looking to swell its number of followers, I'm failing to see how this over-reactive behaviour can do anything barring harm.

And I'd like to back up what Johnny said too, I really don't get this, the kids wanted to name something dear to them as something important to them, what harm is that? And yeah, what about people of the same name?

Well I know a lad called Mohamed so I suppose its ok.

But I think it would be different if you called your dog Mohamed

i don't think on whole that the religious thing is a bad thing what think the problem is some people read it in way to suit them selfs twisting the original message.

thats what I have always said, people interperate it their own way and say its whatever their religion teaches, thats why I said if there was no such thing then people would have nothing to interperate wrongly then no problem.

But this is all I am saying on the matter because we will get one those big long argumentative threads. :blink

I perhaps could understand the response if for instance, half the Muslim population were not called Mohammed!

I suppose its ok to name yourself after a prophet, but its disrespectful to name a teddy bear after a prophet? yes well with that attitude i hope that prophet smacks the shite out of you when he meets you face to face...

This entire planet needs to wake the **** up and smell something other than their own shite, or its all going the way of the dodo, If I wanted to disrespect you, I can do a damn well better job than naming a toy after a well loved prophet
