Try starting in safe mode then run a virus scan. No virus software is 100% foolproof so you could have one.

    Try a system restore mate.

When you boot up in safe mode you will get th option of going into system restore, select a suitable date and see what happens....

    Hi there,

Have you tried starting Windows in "Last known good configuration" mode at startup? (press F8 after BIOS has loaded)

Secondly does your laptop have a function button which makes your screen go black? By pressing the "Fn" key in conjunction with a F1 to 12 key, you have to try and see which one it is. Had that problem once where the screen went black the moment the GUI (Graphical User Interface) of Windows was displayed.

If those two things do not work try uninstalling your video drivers in Safe Mode and download the appropriate drivers from your Laptop manufacturer (in this case Acer) and go from there.

    good luck
