i would like to train and become a database administrator, its something im interrested in. i would like to go down the route of self study, purchsaing the required books etc and learning from home and applying to take examinations when im ready, but im unsure were to start from and what route i need to take. currently i have no knowledge of SQL and database administration so i will need to start with the raw basics and steadly progress, i was originally doing a course with Advent but they went bust. i would like advise on how to start this self study and what route and what books etc would be best suited to for me.

    Hi,

Do you have any kind of qualifications & experience working in IT?

If you want to know the raw basics first then the CompTia A+ is the place to start then proberly after that i would say the N+. I have been doing the A+ now for the last month and hopefully be taking the exam in the next couple of months then will be moving onto the N+. A few good books i would suggest would be:

    CompTIA A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide - http://www.amazon.co.uk/CompTIA-Certification-Seventh-220-701-220-702/dp/0071701338/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273528015&sr=1-1

    CompTIA A+ Complete Study Guide - http://www.amazon.co.uk/CompTIA-Complete-Study-Guide-Application/dp/047048649X/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273528015&sr=1-4

I would also recommend - http://www.professormesser.com/. This is a very resourceful Website for studying towards your A+, N+...

    Hope this helps.

    Good Luck
